I have just answered a call from a client wanting to know the details regarding smoking on board cruise ships and there rules, this can be a very touchy subject as I found out!
No cruise operators will allow you to smoke where ever you feel like on board ship they now have set rules in which smokers must follow, in which there will be certain areas inside you can smoke but very limited usually a certain area of one of the lounges, cigar lounge and casino. All cruise liners will allow you to smoke on certain areas of the open air decks, and there are also a limited number of liners that will allow you to smoke in your cabin / stateroom.
P&O, Princess, Carnival, Cunard, Costa and Holland America who at the moment will allow you to smoke in the cabins subject to rules normally being that you are booekd into a balcony cabin.
Although there is always a chance that the cruise liners can change there mind at any point on there smoking regulations!
Hi Emma
ReplyDeleteI've read on Cunard's website that from the 22nd April 2010, the only place where cigarette smoking will be permitted inside the QM2 is Churchills Cigar Lounge.
Churchills is an nice room but it's smaller than my kitchen, it only holds around 30 passengers.
An average sailing on QM2 has around 500-600 smoking passengers.
Carnival/Cunard must be doing so well that they can afford to dismiss the needs of 25% of it's passengers?
Please warn your smoking clients not to book on the QM2.
I love the Internet, we were all set to book on the Queen Mary until I came across this.
ReplyDeleteEmma (or anyone else) please list the names of cruise lines which are smoking friendly, by which I mean with proper inside bars/pubs.
I know this anti-smoking thing is a bit of a hot potato but we will not pay good money to have our holidays ruined by "nipping outside" for a smoke.
Eddie and Ruth
We've just cancelled QM2 too, I'm looking into Costa Cruises I think they are pretty smoker friendly, will post when I've more info.
ReplyDeleteRE Cunards new smoking policy, Churchills is the only indoor smoking area on QM2, it has 11 seats....... for a ship of this size that's nuts.
ReplyDeleteWe have cancelled and will not travel on QM2 again as the thought of having to stay in the cabin or go all the way to the small area on deck 3 every time we fancy a cigarette night and day on a TA don't appeal very much.

ReplyDeleteSMOKING IS A DISGUSTING HABIT AND SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED AT ALL ON ANY SHIP. J HILL HUCKNALL
ReplyDeleteJohn Hill.
ReplyDeleteHow could you possibly find fault with having one smoking bar on a ship?
OK, you think it's disgusting, so don't go into a smoking bar, you have all the others to use.
I don't understand people like you.
